Submission Guidelines - Sprites

Last Updated: June 15, 2025
Background Color
A simple mistake when ripping sprites can be placing sprites on a white background. This can result in unusable results - some games use white within a sprite's palette. Sprites on a white background, when the background is removed, causes the white within the sprite to be removed too. The same applies to black, which is also frequently used within sprites.
We advise using a transparent background or a colour that contrasts the sprite's palette - a unique colour not found in the palette already.

Organization / Alignment
A sprite sheet's arrangement is very important. Sprites should be lined up as animations in rows. Try to keep these lined up straight. Remember to leave sufficient space between sprites, making sure they never overlap.
Please also be certain you're ripping at a 1:1 scale of the native system resolution. Do not stretch or distort the sprites.

Get Everything
While not entirely necessary, we ask that submissions are as complete as possible. Try to rip all of a character’s animations, not just a single frame from each animation, or just a single animation. There is little use for sprites that are dramatically incomplete, and can be detrimental to future contributors.

Credit Tags
You may include a credit tag on your submission to denote who ripped the content. This is optional, and should be reasonable in size. We do not enforce “giving credit” for rips, but we do for custom artwork.

GIFs
Users can upload animated GIFs to an asset page. GIFs should use frame delays instead of duplicated frames for timing.
