@SomeoneHere Depends on the machine... From like the mid 1980s to the late 1990s, there were two main methods. FM audio, as in the same kind that you got from an arcade machine (YM2151, YM2610, etc). The other one are streaming/audio chips... One is Midway's DCS streaming/audio chip, the same kind that you get in Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 used in Bally/Williams machines from the early 1990s up to when they pulled out of pinball. The other is BSMT2000 used in 1990s Stern pinball machines (might be branded as Data East or Sega).

These are emulated in MAME. There might need to have some debugging or activate a test to play the sounds or find a way of extracting the speech samples if they are in PCM. Considering the technical side works as they used ROMS but obviously not the gameplay. PinMAME might work but since it uses a really old version of MAME (an illegally licensed one), the sound emulation would be off...

Not sure of the 2000s Stern machines with the White Star/SAM chips... I'll imagine later modern pinball such as Stern and Jersey Jack would use .wav or common audio files. Older pinball machines would use physical parts that can't be ripped or even discrete circuitry that might be possible but I don't know any pinball machine from the late 1970s/early 1980s that would use it (Gorgar, Black Knight maybe?).

There's also the possibility that someone used The Pinball Arcade or Pinball FX however technically that's cheating as in theory it should be grouped with those games (there are a few differences).
